The Evolution of Infectious Diseases with Justin Meyer

Treating infectious diseases is a uniquely difficult problem since pathogens often evolve, rendering today's therapies useless tomorrow, as well as leaving us defenseless as new pathogens emerge. UC San Diego Professor Justin Meyer's course provides a review of concepts and methods in evolutionary medicine, with an emphasis on microbial genomics and molecular evolution and how they are relevant to the viral strain SARS-CoV-2 that causes the disease COVID-19, now a global pandemic.
