The city flower of Yueyuang City in China's Hunan Province is the gardenia. In creating his Gardenia for String Quartet & Pipa, composer Xiaogang Ye adapted folk songs and operas from the region to convey a sense of loss, and his longing for the beautiful scenery of Southern China.
